Show Me Murder

Ken McElroy

Episode Summary

The shooting of Ken McElroy is often remembered as a case of "vigilante justice," in which a local bully was shot to death in front of dozens of witnesses, all of whom later denied seeing the shooters. With the help of Harry MacLean, author of In Broad Daylight, Michael finds there is much more to this story, and the mark it has left on the town of Skidmore, Missouri.

Episode Notes

Ken McElroy was more than a town bully.  He ran roughshod over northwest Missouri for decades, unchecked by the legal system, until local citizens decided they'd had enough.  Hear the story of what led to his shooting death in 1981, as covered by Harry MacLean's novel, In Broad Daylight.
